Artist Trading Cards are individual art miniatures.  Artists have produced miniatures for trade or self-promotion in many eras and places. ATCs have been created on a great variety of materials such as stiffened fabric, balsa wood, and metal. The art on the cards can be done in any media: textile arts, pencil, collage, watercolor, acrylic, digital art, calligraphy, beadwork, assemblage, rubber stamps, carved soft block stamps, xxxxxxxxx pen and ink, colored pencil, mixed media, airbrush, oil, pastels, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and many others. Historically there were xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx few standard rules or guidelines to xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx art trading cards, and many variances in sizes can be seen in older cards. Today, the only rule for these cards is their 2.5 by 3.5 inch size, like baseball cards and collectible card games. An offshoot of ATCs are the "art card, editions and originals" (ACEO). NEWS: Pattern Pieces won the Award of Merit in the Free Spirit Art Show in Suffolk, VA!  The Award of Merit is equivalent to third place and includes a cash prize.  On view now through May 16 at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, 110 W. Finney Avenue.
